Photo: Costa Coffee - Moto Rugby (take 2).jpeg

Original file(960 × 1,280 pixels, file size: 265 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Costa lounge at Moto’s brand new Rugby site, situated in the centre of the amenity building’s interior, between the shops and food court. It opened in 2021, original to the building and is the largest unit at Rugby. Costa obtains its own, extremely large seating area, meaning customers don’t have to use the communal seating. In fact, when Rugby’s so busy, Costa’s seating is used as an overflow to ensure customers can be seated, improving customers’ experience. Costa remains open 24 hours and is a vital brand serving motorists coffee, however, Costa is less important at Rugby as similar products can be purchased at Greggs or Pret. Costa becomes more important to smaller Moto sites without these brands. Costa first opened at a services in 2000 and now operates at every Moto and Roadchef site, along with Moto operated units at Extra sites. Costa opening before Starbucks (first site was Corley in 2006) means it dominated the industry of big-name motorway coffee first, and are more widespread on the motorway network now. Costa at Rugby is well-furnished, nicely organised and very tidy. This pic also evidences the unique ceiling design at Rugby as well as Moto’s new corporate logo through the back window. Costa is another of Moto’s partners to majorly inflate their prices by the motorway, charging roughly 10% more than a high street branch. Costa keep upping their prices ordinarily, making the brand unattractive for customers as it’s very expensive. Mostly, customers choose Greggs for cheaper coffee. Costa was moderately busy during my visit, as was the entire site. Costa is also signposted from both sides of the M6 (as a drive thru however) so customers expect to find it. It’s also advertised at several points around the site and is included on Rugby’s totem pole.
