Like most of the M4's services, Chieveley was discussed on Gavin and Stacey, where Smithy says of it "Chieveley's the best, it's insane", going as far to say that he took his girlfriend there for dinner. Its previous moment in th spotlight was when it hosted BBC Radio 2's Derek Jameson breakfast show on 25 July 1988.

The former betting office to the side of the main building is currently unused and was available to lease as a retail outlet for a short time, but this is no longer the case. Moto intend to reuse this space soon.

Works commenced in early 2023 to redevelop the former Arlo's restaurant area into the new Pret A Manger store. As part of the works, the existing Costa store received a refurbishment in March 2023, with the new Pret A Manger store opening on 30 March 2023.

Moto are seeking to build a Changing Places facility at Chieveley. In the longer term, they are working on a proposal to fully redevelop the site, to provide a larger capacity and more modern facilities.

Chieveley services evolved out of many attempts to build a double-sided service area on the A34 - see the full history.
