External footbridge

Old motorway footbridge.
The bridge at Toddington.

Service areas which were built with the motorway normally had a footbridge included. Many chose to incorporate it into the building, but some didn't, and those that didn't are listed here.

We list a footbridge as "external" if any part of it is uncovered. This means services in this category can be used to meet with people or visit facilities on either side, but not to turn a vehicle around, and in poor weather it may not be a pleasant walk.

There are no A-road or Irish examples. Barnsdale Bar and Easington services on the A1 and A19 used to have footbridges, but they have been removed.
