Work on the service area started in March 2000, with the services fully opening on 22 January 2001. It was referred to in planning as 'Radwell services'.
The motorway network’s first Regus Express Workpod opened here on 23 May 2014, but it has since been removed. A firm of solicitors now lease the upper level of the building.
The motel opened as a Sleep Inn, and includes a drop-off area at the front as if it's expecting a higher class of customer than the usual motorway motel. The petrol station was originally operated by Texaco and Somerfield.
